Lousa

Wild guinea pig - Lousa

Had an excellent stop off in the little town of Lousa.
We stayed on a bit of land that a lovely family (originally from the Netherlands) leave available for motorhomers. It’s on the edge of town, very peaceful, and is on the same wave length as us with a compost toilet and a solar shower.
Here’s the best bit – next to the parking area is an old ruined building, and in the ruin lives a little guinea pig who comes out to have his breakfast in the morning.
We (Em) called him (may have been a her) Basil. He was a bit nervy, but happy for us to sit and watch him eat his breakfast. What a way to start the day – on g-pig watch.
On a side note the town also has a castle that you can walk to and a natural pool to swim in – just a bit chilly at this time of year.
As you drive around the area it’s fun to look out for the schist villages – built from the local schist stone that makes the houses blend into the landscape.
If we didn’t have to carry on our travels we’d have enjoyed staying longer here… and we (Em) were sad to say goodbye to Basil.
