Swung by Nazaré on our way to Coimbra. It’s a big wave surf site and is currently hosting the 2019-20 Tow Surfing Challenge.
The waves were hitting 24 foot while we were there, not quite it’s mega record waves of 80 – 100 foot, but still scarily big.
We’re used to paddling out and just wearing our 5/3 full suits… these guys suit up with buoyancy aids and inflatable packs in their suits and get dropped off in the waves by jet skis. Brave stuff!
As it’s competition time, the tv crews were there, sending out their top quality drones over the waves. Was good to see a surfer from Devon come in and talk about his morning in the waves. Zoom in on the pic to see the little dots that are the jet skis and surfers! 🏄‍♂️🏄‍♀️
