Made a stop at Lago d’Orta, one of the smaller lakes in the Italian Lakes near to Lake Maggiore. The motorhome stop is at the top of a hill in the Scare Monte di Orta peninsula that sticks out into the lake – it has around 20 churches at the top of the hill, some of which chime with tunes on the hour. It was interesting navigating the hairpin bend on the steep hill down into the motorhome stop!
Lake d’Orta is great for swimming and paddling in; and the town of Orta itself is very pretty.
We went on a boat trip to a couple of tiny villages on the lake sides and then visited the Island of San Guilio.
Top tip: it’s a bit of a mosquito zone so bring the repellent!
