First dividing wall going in

First toilet wall installed

Our first dividing wall is going in – one wall of the toilet, next to the end of the bed.
We need to keep weight as low as possible in the van, so any walls will ideally be lightweight.
You can buy finished plywood with a laminate covering on either one or both sides for van conversions, but it’s quite pricey.
We decided to buy plain 15mm lightweight poplar ply and just varnish it for strength, it’s really light in colour, so will keep the van bright.
We got the ply directly from a timber supplier, James Latham near Leicester.
We templated the wall with antinox to get the rough shape. Cut out the plywood. Roll eyes 🙄 return of the curved van walls. To get the best fit, we had to scribe the ply to make it fit snugly against the curved wall.
We marked up and pre drilled all the locations we were going to fix the ply in, using brackets into the walls and pocket holes into the van floor. Then coated the ply with 4 coats of satin varnish in total on both sides and all edges before install.
